Position for Summer Camp Director
A wonderful opportunity has come up for you to join our team at Eagles Nest Ranch in Cypress Hill, Alberta as our new summer Camp Director.
The right candidate will be a person of vision and forward thinking on how to effectively connect with our campers especially during this time of lockdown.
The Camp Director manages and coaches camp staff, while establishing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, parents, and campers. The Camp Director reports directly to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
The Summer Camp Director is part of the leadership team and oversees the general program operations of Summer Camp, within the guidelines of Eagles Nest Ranch’s vision and mission statements and policies.
The Summer Camp Director is required to give a minimum of 12 months commitment - however this is negotiable.
Accountability: The Summer Camp Director is responsible to the camp’s Executive Director and the Board of Eagles Nest Ranch.
Responsibilities: To assist in Personnel Recruitment, hire, supervise and support a full complement of summer staff. Develop staff training materials and subsequent programs for pre-camp staff training and inservice training during the summer. Provide opportunities for professional development, spiritual and personal growth for summer staff. Ensure the evaluation of all summer staff. Participate, plan and lead effective staff meetings. Meet with the Executive Director as needed - Ensure that Eagles Nest Ranch’s policies and practices are being followed In collaboration with the Executive Director, give guidance and direction to on-site volunteers Management & Administration. In collaboration with the leadership team, set a summer schedule and develop marketing material.
1. Creating the camp budget
One of the biggest responsibilities is creating and managing budget for the upcoming camp season. Work with the Executive Director in monitoring all expenses and revenues within the framework of the operating budget .2. Hiring and managing personnel
This process includes interviewing candidates, conducting background checks (because you’re working with minors), Another key role is facilitating staff development to ensure that all new team members are well-trained and
prepared for the summer season.
The camp director's job involves administrative duties and supervisory responsibility for staff and campers. He or she also ultimately oversees and has responsibility for all camp activities. Unlike camp counselors who work seasonally, camp directors typically work year-round.Evaluating camp programsAfter camp ends, time is spent distributing and reviewing surveys from campers and their families. The responses to these surveys help in the view of how successful the summer season was, including
Evaluating each program that was offered during camp
Determining how popular a program was with the campers
How much it cost to run each program
- planning of the upcoming camp seasons
If the program meets the mission and mandates of the camp
Collect photos to update websites and social media. Look for opportunities to effectively promote camp locally and provincially Communicate and engage effectively with campers, parents, staff, volunteers and alumni. Build relationships with summer volunteers Conduct regular on-site workplace and health and safety inspections Assist with fundraising and promotional events throughout the year Attend required meetings, guide and oversee the summer camp program. Operate all aspects of the summer camp program (including policies and procedures) in a safe, timely, efficient and relevant manner in accordance with current standards. Submit financial reports as needed. Ensure all programs promote camper and staff wellbeing. In collaboration with the Facility Manager, make sure program areas, buildings, and facilities are well maintained during camp season. Provide an accurate reflection of the camp mission statement in camp programs, staff training, policies , publicity and overall management.
In collaboration with the Executive Director, provide spiritual development opportunities and support for staff.
The successful candidate will have experience related directly to children’s summer camping; the ability to provide leadership, counsel, motivation, and supervision to staff and volunteers; the ability to set objectives, delegate and prioritize workflow such that goals are efficiently met; a christian, and the ability to guide staff on their faith journeys; a knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to camping situations; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.
