Tree Stream wants to take the stress off your shoulders on your large building projects!
I love camps. I want to help you make yours even better.
Hi! I’m Braden, the founder and principal consultant for Tree Stream Consulting. I’m a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP)®.
I believe camps have incredible power to change lives. They certainly changed mine – as a camper, rental group member, and as a camp staff member.
The thing is...it’s not the physical camps themselves that change lives; it’s the people at camp. Camps are about relationships, not lodges or climbing walls or waterfronts themselves. Therefore, I believe that your camp’s facilities need to do one thing especially well (besides, obviously, being safe): facilitate relationships.
The space in which you work and run your programs can have a massive impact on you and your staff’s effectiveness, good or bad. Sometimes, this means that renovating or expanding your camp’s built environment is necessary to maximize your impact and allow your staff and volunteers to do what they do best: foster meaningful, life changing relationships.
That’s where I want to help. If you are considering building, expanding, or renovating, I want to help you dream, plan, and finish your project well.
Avoid missteps by working with the right people.
Undertaking a capital building project can be daunting. The design and construction components need to align with your funding and communications strategies. There are bylaws and building codes to sort through. Hiring the right architects, engineers, and contractors can be a complicated process where poor decisions may be costly. Many camps don’t have the expertise or capacity on staff to tackle these tasks effectively. Many directors are overloaded as it is, and are at high risk of burnout when trying to take on capital projects alone.
On the other side of the table, most traditional design or construction firms don’t truly understand camps. They’ve never had to go through the cycles of fund development or communications. They haven’t experienced how camps operate day-to-day. And finally...their focus is usually their bottom line, so they rarely put in the time to truly understand the unique design and funding challenges that camps need to overcome.
With Tree Stream, I want to help you bridge this gap. I provide thorough, personal, and affordable consulting services to help you avoid common pitfalls, take stress off your leadership, and ensure that your camp’s capital building project is exactly what you need.
Tree Stream has four core values. This is what I prioritize when helping you plan and execute your project:
Stewardship: Camps are under increasing pressure to maximize their human and financial resources. Capital building projects carry a large risk of misusing these resources. I want to help ensure that staff can continue to contribute where they are most effective, relieve leaders to avoid burnout, and manage capital funds wisely.
Thoughtful Planning: When capital building projects fail, the usual suspect is a lack of proper feasibility and planning work. I can help camps develop the “why, what, when, who, and how” to ensure project success.
Advocacy: Many firms, due to large overhead, are forced to take a “get in and get out” approach. They don’t have time to get to know your cause, your vision, and your goals. I believe that this understanding – true support and advocacy – is crucial to making sure your project fits your needs.
Sustainability: I strive to ensure that your organization, the community you serve, and the environment in which you operate continue to thrive and grow for generations to come.
