VEC Maintenance Manager, Youth Farm Bible Camp, Rosthern, SK (Posted 03/13/23)

Valley Equestrian Centre is currently looking to find an individual to fill the role of maintenance manager.

Valley Equestrian Centre is a busy riding stable that operates as a branch of the Youth Farm Bible Camp. Since establishment in 2017, VEC has grown to boast a large indoor riding arena, several outdoor arenas, and a herd of 20 lesson horses. The mission of VEC is to improve the lives of our clients through horses. This means a person-first approach, with staff providing a caring, professional, high quality, and friendly atmosphere.

The successful candidate will first and foremost need to have a heart for ministry and for seeing people’s lives transformed. They will be an ambassador of the organization’s core and faith values. They will be comfortable working both alone and as part of a team. It is important that they are also flexible and adaptable to changing rhythms and seasons throughout the year. Experience in facility maintenance and animal care is also very important.

Responsibilities:

Animal Care

Daily feeding of horses including supplements
Daily assessment of horses’ health and applying basic medical care
Blanketing horses in winter
Handling horses for routine farrier. body work, vet care
Assisting with the feeding and care of other animals

Arena Maintenance

Grooming arena with tractor and rototiller, harrows etc.
Watering arena
Cleaning manure
Organizing, cleaning and maintaining equipment in arena and tack room

Grounds Maintenance

Pest and weed control
Mowing grass/clearing snow
Fixing fences
Renovation or building projects as they arise

Organizational

Attend daily staff meetings with all camp staff
Train interns/seasonal staff and delegate tasks as needed
Help out in other areas of the ministry when able and needed in order to encourage the success of the entire organization

Requirements:

Experience with facilities maintenance and operating a tractor
Strong communicational skills and a great attitude
Comfortable working outdoors
Can lift 50lbs
Flexible working schedule as will be required to work on some holidays and weekends
Aligns with VEC and YFBC mission and core values
Valid driver’s licence
Criminal record check required for successful candidates
